ASP: Application Service Provider and Application Service Providing. Application Service Providing became a recognised internet business category in 1999. ASP allows applications to run via the internet. The software developer earns money by charging for time or session-based access rather than by selling the software.

Anytime Conference: the dial-in time to an Anytime Conference is not fixed.

Branding: the process of connecting products and services to a particular name. The aim is differentiate one's own products from similar products in order to uniquely associate them with a particular brand name. Branding occurs via the Ready Audio Conference in the form of the Web Portal contents, invitation texts (visual elements), voice announcements and on-hold music (acoustic elements). Fixed guidelines apply to the use of visual and acoustical elements which are considered part of the corporate design.

Broadcast:
broadcasts are used to communicate information to a number of people within a few minutes. Broadcasts can be used for invitations to events, appointments (e.g. conferences) reminders, or as part of crisis management. For more information, please refer to our Alert Calls product.

CDR: Call Detail Record

Conference Bridge: a special telephone conference platform which connects telephone calls to a conference. "Bridging" here means connecting together the telephone lines of the various participants.

CTI: Computer Telephony Integration is the fusion of telecommunication with electronic data processing. CTI uses computer programs to automatically connect, accept and terminate telephone calls as well as to switch telephone calls and to establish telephone conferences. The CTI software also informs the user about the status of the telephone system.

Data conference: a data conference is a type of telephone conference which has the additional capability of sharing applications with other participants (also known as application sharing).

Dial-out conference
: a telephone conference in which the system contacts the participants and connects them to the conference

Dial-in conference: a telephone conference in which the participants connect themselves to the conference.

DTMF: Dual Tone Multi Frequency is a method of generating tones when telephone keys are pressed. Dual Tone Multi-Frequency encodes key presses on the terminal equipment before transmitting them over an established telephone connection. Each key press generates a unique tone comprising the algebraic sum of two sine waves of different frequencies.

E-meetings:
E-meetings (also known as E-collaboration) are "virtual conferences".

HTTP: HyperText Transfer Protocol is a standard protocol for communication between a web server and web browser.

Instant Messaging: (abbrev. IM) is a service which uses software (client) to allow the Instant Messenger to communicate (chat) in real-time with others participants.

IP address:
each computer on the internet can be identified via a unique numerical address. An IP address comprises four numbers separated by dots, which have a value between 0 und 255.

ISDN: Integrated Services Digital Network

Value-added services: these are special telecommunication services whose technical solution goes beyond that normally expected of a basic connection. Value-added services are available for both voice and data, and can be offered by the provider to generate extra income.

Mobile conference: a mobile conference can be booked without a PC. All that is required is a telephone.

Mute status: a participant switched to mute can hear but not say anything in a conference.

Outlook Add-in: the Outlook Add-in is an extra feature of Microsoft Outlook®. The Add-in can be used to organise a phone or data conference from within the normal environment of the Outlook® calendar.

Parked status: a participant switched to parked can neither hear nor say anything in a conference. The participant hears music until he is reconnected.

PSTN: Public Switched Telephone Network; the public telephone network

Request to speak: is used by a muted conference participant to inform the conference moderator that he would like to say something. When the participant presses #1 on his telephone keypad, the "request to speak" flag is set beside the participant's name in Conference Control Panel to inform the conference moderator of the participant's intentions.

Rich Internet Applications: (RIA) e.g. drag-and-drop capabilities or the use of shortcut keys imply "added value" on top of conventional web applications. RIA's are very user-friendly and deal with requests faster.

SSL: Secure Sockets Layer is a protocol developed by Netscape to encrypt certain internet protocols such as HTTP to ensure secure communication.

Telephone conference: a telephone conference organised by Lindenbaum is a "virtual" conference. The participants do not sit together in a conference room during a telephone conference. They can be anywhere in the world but are connected together in a "virtual conference room". The conference is controlled via the web. The telephone calls use the telephone network so high quality speech is guaranteed.

TTS: Text to Speech

Unified Communication: (UC) describes the integration of communication media into a common application environment. The idea behind Unified Communications is to merge communication services and integrate presence functions (instant messengers are an example), so that communication partners can be contacted more easily regardless of where they are geographically. The result is an acceleration of business processes.

VoIP: VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol, also known as IP telephony) uses the computer network, which is based on internet standards, to make telephone calls. Information typically required for telephoning, i.e. voice and control information (to establish a connection), is transmitted via a network also used to transmit data. Participants can use computers, IP telephony equipment or conventional telephones with special adapters to connect to the conference.
