Find out what’s new at Lindenbaum – Planting saplings

06.05.2011 11:20

Today we report on the sapling planting day held by the Stadtwerke Karlsruhe on 9 April 2011. As a NatuR-Strom customer, Lindenbaum made its own contribution to improving its carbon footprint by planting an oak tree sapling in the Hardtwald forest not far from the Sepulchral chapel of the Grand Duchy of Baden.

Since the start of 2011, Lindenbaum has been a user of green electricity based on 100 percent regenerative energy from the Stadtwerke Karlsruhe for its Karlsruhe site. "As a company whose name refers to a tree, it is of particular pleasure to us to plant a tree in the Karlsruhe forest. This small contribution to an improved carbon footprint is indicative of how important sustainability and climate protection is to us," comments Dr. Ralf Nikolai managing director of Lindenbaum.

The event was a successful mixture: as well as information on the green electricity program available from the Stadtwerke, we also gained an impression of the significance of the forest for Karlsruhe and educational activities undertaken by the Karlsruhe forestry commission. Before everyone took a spade to hand, Ulrich Kienzler, forest department manager for the city of Karlsruhe, explained step-by-step the best technique to carefully plant a sapling.
Then it was just a matter of planting our own tree in the Karlsruhe forest and labelling with a small disc. Sunny weather and food and drink provided by the Stadtwerke rounded off a perfect day.

Electricity provided to customers on the NatuR energy plan is based on 100 percent environmentally-friendly production. The large majority is generated by the Freudenau hydro-electric power station in Austria. The Stadtwerke Karlsruhe regularly allow independent auditors from the TÜV Süd to certify the origin of the regenerative power.
