Brexit and the consequences for data protection

Only a few weeks before Brexit, it is expected that Britain’s exit will happen without an agreement with the EU. From the perspective of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) all countries outside the EU and the European Economic Area are so-called “third countries”. As a result, the UK could become an unsafe third country overnight, which, inter alia, will have a serious impact on data protection. This is particularly relevant for companies that transfer personal data to the UK or provide access to that information to companies located there.
